3He in a Torsion Pendulum
We present results of the Q−1 and period shift, P , for 3He confined in a 98% nominal open aerogel on a torsion pendulum. The aerogel is compressed uniaxially by 10% along a direction aligned to the torsion pendulum axis and was grown within a 400 μm tall pancake (after compression) similar to an Andronikashvili geometry. The result is a high Q pendulum able to resolve Q−1 and mass coupling of ...
متن کاملA double pendulum model of tennis strokes
The physics of swinging a tennis racquet is examined by modeling the forearm and the racquet as a double pendulum. We consider differences between a forehand and a serve, and show how they differ from the swing of a bat and a golf club. It is also shown that the swing speed of a racquet, like that of a bat or a club, depends primarily on its moment of inertia rather than on its mass. © 2011 Ame...
متن کاملElectrostatically suspended torsion pendulum
A torsion pendulum without a torsion wire has been designed and realized, in order to measure very weak forces. The arm of this torsion pendulum ~5.40 g, 1.32310 kg m of inertia! is electrostatically suspended. Its 6 degrees of freedom are controlled thanks to electrostatic forces, and capacitive position sensing with a noise spectral density between 10 and 10 m/AHz. The torque noise spectral d...

متن کاملResults and Discussion Torsion Pendulum
NASA/JSC is implementing an advanced propulsion physics laboratory, informally known as "Eagleworks", to pursue propulsion technologies necessary to enable human exploration of the solar system over the next 50 years, and enabling interstellar spaceflight by the end of the century. This work directly supports the "Breakthrough Propulsion" objectives detailed in the NASA OCT TA02 In-space Propul...
